Church of Our Lady of Salvation (Syriac Catholic)

The massacre took place at the Syriac Catholic Church of Our Lady of Salvation in the Karrada district of eastern Baghdad. The first modest church was built on the site in 1952, and the current cathedral was constructed in 1968 after three years of building. Approximately 5,000 regular-attending families were affiliated with this cathedral alone, out of a total of approximately 14,000 Syriac Catholic families in Baghdad before the attack.
